Let's see - Y'all - Means everybody - As in y'all come. Fixin - means getting ready - as in I am fixin to go to work. Yonder - means over there- As in the house is over yonder. Boot scootin - a ritual dance founded in Texas in which everyone is either in a line or going in the same direction while shuffling their boots and in a tight formation that encourages marriage. Gully washer - means traffic is backed up or totally blocked by water. This will recede in a reasonable amount of time. You do not want to go under overpasses during these times. Don't remark about the number of pickups because you will find the need for one before the year is out. Texas is the land where motherhood, apple pie, God, and the flag are alive and well. Texans are the first to volunteer to defend their country and the group that turns out the lights when the fighting is done. Generally we are a very well mannered group and stop to help our neighbors (or make a cell call) if we see you having trouble on the road. Houstonians are noted for their quick response to TV news broadcast of a fellow Houstonian who needs a hand. Part of this good manners extends to road etiquette. You do not blow horns at your fellow travelers not use your hands to express you displeasure - true or not - it is said most Texans are packing and that does not mean their suitcase - so just in case, when road rage hits, tune in the radio or pop in a tape.

Where on earth am I??? Who are these people and why do they talk so funny??? What is there to do in this place??? Is anybody out there???

Well one thing's for certain this is not Kansas Toto. However, Houston is a wonderful place with friendly people, lots of sun, a beach just south of us, a lake and bay just east of us and some really great places to relax.
